Eric Corson of The Long Winters gives us a fresh 2010 mix of the JR song ‘Woman of My Dreams.’
About ‘Woman of My Dreams’
“‘Woman of My Dreams’ wrote itself, really,” says JR of the song. “One morning I woke up with this song in my head. I just pretty much woke up with this melody and words and a sense of a dream. What I remember from that dream is the song. It's a song about becoming who you want to be. Not having all the answers and still willing to move in that direction, come what may.”
The Making of 'Woman of My Dreams'
“We recorded in The Shoe Building, a loft space in downtown Seattle, where I called home at the time,” JR remembers. “It's my favourite way to record, inviting friends over and making music together. The first session Brad, Mike and I put down the basic tracks of lead vocals, guitar, bass and drums. After that in another session Kym, Nancy, Sarah, Willow and I got together and on the spot came up with harmony vocals. They were surprised at first that I'd left it so open, which was pretty funny to me. I knew them and their work and so felt confident that we'd come up with parts we were all happy with and have fun doing it. Lastly, Eyvind came over on the final recording session and put down track after track of these other-worldly and melodic violin parts. I remember wanting to save all his tracks and I'm glad we saved most of them because in the 2010 mix Eric brought in a track of violin we hadn't used before to start off the song in this other-worldly way.”
