From childhood, JR spent the hours teaching herself guitar, piano, and bass, as well as music notation and the craft of songwriting. Her talent for music blossomed further during her years at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Composition and received inspiration from such artists as jazz trombonist Bill Lowe and saxophonist and composer Anthony Braxton. The range of her experience and influences is reflected in every note she sings and plays.
